Visually impaired skiers Williamson and Forest winners at IPC World Cup slalom in Roll Rinn, AUT

ROLL RINN, AUT (January 9, 2010) - Christopher Williamson (Markham, ON) and guide Nick Brush (Panorama, BC) as well as Viviane Forest (Edmonton, AB) with her guide Lindsay Debou (Whistler, BC) swept the visually impaired category by recording the fastest time in both men's and ladies slalom races at the IPC World Cup race in Roll Rinn, AUT.

Williamson, won his first IPC World Cup race since 2008, coming from second place in the opening run to win the race with a two-run combined time of one minutes 32.04 seconds.

Forest, reigning overall IPC World Cup champion in the ladies visually impaired category, also finished first by recording a time of 1:46.53.

"The race went really well today. Our mental preparation and communication played a vital role in our success," said Debou. "We did a lot of visualization the night before the slalom race and we knew exactly what we had to do."

"Despite some fog that had rolled in, we had an amazing race. This makes us very excited and ready for the rest of the season," added the Whistler-based Debou.

In the ladies standing category Lauren Woolstencroft (North Vancouver, BC) finished in third position, with Andrea Dziewior (Nanaimo. BC) sixth and Karolina Wisniewska (Vancouver, BC) taking seventh.

Melanie Schwartz (Toronto, ON), who missed Friday's opener and thus was making her IPC World Cup season debut, ranked 12th.

In the men's standing category, Matt Hallat (Whistler, BC) finished seventh, his best result in slalom since finishing fourth at the World Cup Finals in 2007.

Kimberly Joines (Rossland, BC), Arly Fogarty (Montreal, QC), Josh Dueck (Vernon, BC), Morgan Perrin (Whistler, BC) and Jeff Dickson, (Toronto, ON) were each not able to finish the slalom.

The IPC World Cup has today off in order to travel to Abtenau, AUT, where things get started with a slalom race tomorrow.
