Whistler Cup
Preamble
- International juvenile races are tools to evaluate and benchmark our programs with those worldwide. ACA aims to have more Canadian Alpine Racers pursuing and realizing podium performances at all levels and stronger team presence in international competition.
- The Whistler Cup is Canada's International children race that allows us the opportunity to benchmark our programs and athletes with programs from around the World.
Team Canada 1, 2, 3
- Three teams of ten will be formed to represent Canada at the Whistler Cup.
- Each Team will consist of 6 K2 athletes and 4 K1 athletes.
Team Leader and Selection Committee
- The Team leader will be named by ACA in collaboration with the Technical directors.
- The Selection Committee will be composed of the Program/Technical Directors for BC, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Canada District and Benoit Lalande (Alpine Canada Alpin).
K2 Selection Criteria for Team Canada 1, 2 and 3
* 18 Spots (9 males and 9 females) will be decided from the K2 Canadian Championships to attend a Whistler Cup Preparation Camp run by ACA, at which the final selection for Team Canada 1, 2 and 3 will be decided.
- The selection of the 18 spots will be decided initially from the Gold, Silver and bronze medallists at the K2 Canadian Championships.
- From 4 events per gender at the K2 Canadian Championships, there are 12 possible medals per gender.
- Highest medal placing take precedence.
- If less than 18 individuals from medal calculations occur, then the overall result calculations will de used to select for the available spots.
- In the event of ties the next best placing from other events will be used
- Further ties will be broken by race point differences
- DNF's are equivalent to a non medal result
Selection Committee
* Selection for Team Canada 1, 2 and 3 will be based on a combination of K2 Canadian Championships results and performance at the Whistler Cup Preparation Camp. The selection committee is comprised of Provincial TD's and National TD's.
K1 Selection Criteria for Team Canada 1, 2 and 3
- Québec, Ontario, Alberta and BC : each select three (3) a combination 1 and 2 by gender K1 athletes to attend the Whistler Cup Preparation Camp.
- The placement of K1 athletes on the Team Canada 1, 2 or 3 will be based on performance at the Whistler Cup Preparation Camp.
Logistics for Team Canada
- All members of Team Canada will stay in the Team Canada hotel for the duration of the preparation camp and the event. All logistics will be managed by ACA (12 K1 and 18 K2 team).
- No entry fees will be charged to racers on Team Canada 1, 2 or 3
- No lift tickets will be charged to racers on Team Canada 1, 2 or 3 during competition
- Team Canada athletes will score points only for Team Canada and not for their respective provincial teams
Logistics of Provincial Team
- Québec, Ontario, Alberta, & BC may enter 2 provincial teams .Canada District East and West may enter 1 team each. Provinces will form their own teams consisting of 6 K2 & 4K1 athletes.
- Each Province is entirely responsible for their team.
- Each province must have a Team Leader.
- The Whistler Cup is a FIS sanctioned event and therefore FIS rules apply.
