Swiss racer Gisin wins Crans Montana super-G

CRANS MONTANA, SUI (March 7, 2010) – Swiss skier Dominique Gisin brought the Switzerland fans to their feet at today’s ladies World Cup super-G in Crans Montana, SUI.

Gisin’s spirited late charge with bib #29 was just enough to snatch victory away from the USA’s Lindsey Vonn. Gisin’s time of one minute 24.14 seconds was 0.15s ahead of Vonn’s with Julia Mancuso of the USA continuing her strong skiing following the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, capturing third place.

Emily Brydon (Fernie, BC) led the Canadians finishing in 16th. Britt Janyk (Whistler, BC) was 27th with Shona Rubens (Canmore, AB) 38th.

Vonn wrapped up the ladies overall super-G standings prior to today’s race. Her 520 World Cup points in the discipline is now a whopping 281 points ahead of Andrea Fischbacher of Austria with only the World Cup Finals remaining on the schedule.

Brydon and Janyk, in 20th and 25th place respectively in the discipline, both qualify for the World Cup Finals super-G.

On the men’s side, a full press release will be available later today following Erik Guay’s (Mont-Tremblant, QC) stunning win in the men’s super-G in Kvitfjell, NOR.

Guay’s win in Norway can be seen on CBC’s GMC Alpine Ski Series at 2:30 p.m. ET (except Atlantic Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador). The race is also available on www.cbcsports.ca located under “Alpine Skiing” for viewing on demand.

It is then rebroadcast on CBC at 12:30 a.m. local time tonight.
