Alpine Canada Alpin would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of Dr. John Hunter, who passed away Thursday.
He was 76.
An enthusiastic athlete, Hunter was one of the national ski team doctors in the 1970's and early 1980's and was notably with the team when Ken Read won the Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbühel, AUT in 1980, becoming the first non-European to win the famed race.
Hunter also attended the first meeting of the ACA Medical Group in the early 1980's. The ACA Medical Group is made up of doctors who continue to this day, travelling with the team to race events and training as well as meeting regularly in pursuit of ways to better care for Canada's alpine ski racers.
Flowers are respectfully declined. Friends can make a donation on John's behalf to the John Hunter Memorial Fund at the University of Calgary ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 - 8 Street S.W.) on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
