Justice Patrick Smith returning to FIS Council

CALGARY, AB (June 10, 2010) - Justice Patrick Smith received 116 votes, the highest total of any candidate, and was elected to another two-year term on the FIS Council.

The election took place at the 47th International Ski Congress last week in Antalya, TUR.

Smith, who was first elected to the FIS Council in 2000, was also assigned to the Chair of the FIS Doping Panel for another year.

The Thunder Bay, ON resident is the former Chairman of the Big Thunder National Training Center and past Chairman of the Organizing Committee for several FIS World Cups.

Smith is also a federal judge, appointed by the Government of Canada in 2001.

In other appointments from the FIS Congress, ACA Managing Director Robert Rousselle has been named chair of the sub-committee for the Nor-Am Cup.

The World Cup calendar, which includes the traditional opening to the World Cup speed season for both men and women in Lake Louise, AB, was also confirmed.
