Processus d'homologations

Homologation & Course Approval Policy

updated April 2009

All FIS sanctioned races must be held on trails that have been examined and approved by an inspector appointed by the FIS Sub-Committee for Alpine Courses. (ICR Art. 650.1)

A Certificate of Homologation will be issued and signed by the Chairman of the Sub-Committee for Alpine Courses, along with a detailed report of the technical specifications of the trail. A copy of a valid and current Homologation Report and Certificate must be on hand for review by the Technical Delegate assigned to a FIS sanctioned race. (ICR Art. 603.4.9.1)

In Canada, Alpine Canada Alpin is responsible for scheduling inspections, collecting and paying homologation fees and maintaining a file of all current, Canadian homologation reports and certificates.

Homologation Procedure

1) Each PSO (on behalf of club, ROC or Ski area)
a) Completes and submits a request for homologation inspection to Director, National Programs and Race Events
b) Assembles specific documentation that is to be provided to the designated inspector prior to the onsite visit. (ICR Art. 650.4.1 to 650.4.6);
c) Pays the homologation fee and inspector's expenses to ACA.

2) Alpine Canada Alpin-Director, National Programs and Race Events
a) Appoints an inspector. (For new Downhill's, the inspector must not be from Canada. ICR Art. 650.5);
b) Schedules an appropriate date for the inspection. This should be arranged to include representatives from the applicant club and/or the ski area.

3) The Inspector
a) Performs an on-site inspection with representatives from the applicant club and/or ski area;
b) Prepares the homologation report in multiple copies and submits to the Chairman, Sub-Committee for Alpine Courses.
c) Send expenses report to Manager National Services.

4) Chairman, Sub-Committee for Alpine Courses
a) Reviews the documentation and specifications;
b) Checks that all appropriate fees have been paid;
c) Endorses the homologation Certificate and forwards copies to the national federation. One copy is filed with the FIS office, and the original is to be kept by ACA. The inspector, the province and the club/ski area will all retain copies.

In all cases, courses that undergo significant natural or artificial changes during a validity period must be re-inspected and re-certified. The process for re-homologation is the same as for a new homologation.

The FIS office notifies ACA of trails coming due for re-inspection. ACA then advises the provinces.

Re-inspection of DH and SG trails (every 5 years) and GS and SL (every 10 years) requires an on-site visit and the completion of a single sheet inspection form. If there are significant changes, (as determined by the inspector) a complete report with documentation will be carried and submitted. Upon re-approval by the Sub-Committee for Alpine Courses, a new certificate with a new number will be issued. This certificate must be kept with the original homologation reports and made available to TDs to review prior to FIS races. The original will be kept with ACA and copies with the PSO for the ROC.

All trails not re-inspected at the end of the validity period will be dropped from the list of approved trails. Prior to calendaring FIS races on trails that have had their valid certificate expire, the trails must be homologated as if for a new trail.
