President's Choice® headgear skiers sign autographs in Ottawa July 1st OTTAWA, ON (July 1, 2010) - Four national alpine ski racers joined thousands of Canadians in a celebration of Canada's 143rd birthday on Thursday at the President's Choice® Canada's Biggest BBQ Party on Sparks Street in Ottawa, ON.
Jan Hudec (Calgary, AB), Julien Cousineau (Lachute, QC), Larisa Yurkiw (Owen Sound, ON) and Karolina Wisniewska (Vancouver BC,) signed autographs and had photos taken with supporters as part of Canada's Biggest BBQ Event celebration hosted by Alpine Canada Alpin sponsor President's Choice®.
"It's always interesting to meet Canadians and celebrate this country's birthday together," said Hudec, a 2007 Alpine World Ski Championships downhill medalist and World Cup downhill winner.
"There was so much support for us, especially during the Olympics, from across the country. It's nice to be able to say 'thank you' to at least a few of the people who were pulling for us in Whistler and continue to wish us success," added Hudec, who was born in the former Czechoslovakia before his family moved to Canada in his youth.
The skiers were on-hand promoting the President's Choice® Canada's Biggest BBQ Tour, which began May 20, and traveled to 57 communities offering Canadians the opportunity to try, for free, some of the new mouth-watering products and summer treats from President's Choice®.
"We are all really proud Canadians. It's nice to share this time with them and celebrate our country. The Paralympics were a huge success, bringing a lot of attention to our sport. I am really looking forward to building on that," said Wisniewska, a two-time 2010 Paralympic medalist and Polish-born immigrant who has made Ottawa her hometown.
